All Federal Employees who are currently furloughed:

The Safety and Health Training Center is here to help!

Until the Federal Shutdown is over, The Safety and Health Training Center is offering to all Federal Employees who are currently furloughed the opportunity to take accredited training in the environmental field at NO COST.

Attendance and completed certification of our EPA/NYSDOH accredited Asbestos courses enables the student to work in the Asbestos field immediately upon completion of the course. Upon succesful completion of the course, the student will receive a temporary EPA/NYSDOH certification, which is good for 45 days.

This temporary certificate, along with a proper photo identification allows the student to go to work immediately with any company in the Asbestos field.

The Safety and Health Training Center has partnered with a number of environmental consultants and contractors in order to provide each student an opportunity to go to work and gain a paycheck during the furlough.

Those partners are: Sienna Environmental Technologies; Envoy Environmental Consultants; AMD Environmental; Empire Building Diagnostics and Arric Corporation.

Enrollment in any of our courses under this initiative is predicated upon the available slots in each open enrollment class.

For more information, please contact us at (716) 838-6850.

ASBESTOS DISEASE AWARENESS ORGANIZATION

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is an organization dedicated to serving as the voice of asbestos victims. ADAO's goals are to: serve as the united voice for all asbestos victims; unite asbestos victims; educate the public and medical community about asbestos related diseases; support research that leads to early detection, prevention and a cure; ensure equitable compensation for victims and their families and to ban the use of asbestos.

ADAO successes are many including: Support of the United States Senate which unanimously passed S. Res. 108 declaring the first week of April 2007 as National Asbestos Awareness Week. Part of S. Res. 108 is to urge the Surgeon General to warn and educate Americans that asbestos exposure may be hazardous to their health and the 3rd Annual National Asbestos Awareness Conference held at Drexel University School of Public Health in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Another tremendous success was the November 2007 asbestos study in which ADAO tested and found asbestos to be in common household products, such as spackling compound, window glazing and in a best selling children’s toy ("CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit"). These products were analyzed by both PLM and TEM analysis and in most instances, were found to contain asbestos by the TEM method. In addition, none of these items werer labeled to contain asbestos.

To continue the efforts of this non-profit grass root organization, we need your help. Our fight for asbestos disease awareness and fair and balanced legislation needs YOU - yes all of you. Volunteer today.

ADAO is offering Blue "Asbestos Awareness" wristbands to make people aware that asbestos use in the United States is still not banned and to raise the level of awareness of asbestos dangers.

These unique wristbands are now available at The Safety and Health Training Center's location in Buffalo. So stop by and get yours to support ADAO today.

Another way to support ADAO is to go to Goodsearch and type in ADAO in the "Who do you support?" box and everytime the search engine is used, it donates a penny to ADAO's efforts.

ADAO is offering updates and enewsletters concerning Asbestos and new information. Please use the link below to register for important breaking news and information.

To promote the dissemination of information regarding asbestos use and the diseases caused by exposure to asbestos, Ray Turpin, has joined ADAO as their New York State Representative.
